Then about five years ago I made my first tiara. This came about because a friend who married in the UK prior to moving back to New Zealand, wore a borrowed tiara for her ceremony, and so wasn’t able to take the tiara home with her to NZ. I thought it would be a nice parting gift if she were able to take a similar tiara back with her, for her NZ blessing with her family.............and so I made a tiara similar to the one she wore, having studied it carefully on the day. This was the start of me designing and making tiaras. Having always wanted to work with metal from a young age, and having also dabbled in pottery, I was delighted when I came across by chance the product of Precious Metal Clay. Feeling that this was the answer to my prayers, I bought some and started experimenting. I then went on to attend workshops and courses, and then a teaching day to give me the extra skills to teach PMC to others. (Having said that I had during earlier years done a Micro-Teach foundation course at college to enable me teach adults night classes in my then profession of Reflexology, and so teaching to adults is not new to me.) I love designing and making tiara’s and complementary jewellery, and there is something special about each of the processes involved in making my Silver Jewellery. Even though I have attended some courses and will no doubt be attending more to develop my skills further, it is a bit like driving a car- you never really start learning until you go it alone. All the items I design are very much ‘heart felt’ items. By this I mean that I get my inspiration for all sources, but it is only when I sit down to design the pendant to surround a particular piece of glass or a stone, or a tiara to incorporate particular beads, or something to meet the exact specifications of a client, that I get my vision of what to design. It is at that point that the design becomes ‘heart felt’ and my journey with that particular piece begins. It is for this reason that I make no promises that two of the same item will be exactly the same. I like to individualise my pieces and so even making two pendants with the same markings, size and stone - they will be different in some small way. I like the idea of Uniqueness and of Limited numbers. Quite a few years ago I also had a vision of teaching handicrafts as a method of relaxing and escaping the stresses of the everyday demands, expectations and chores that our domestic and working life bring. As I have found making jewellery to be both relaxing and therapeutic, I would like to pass on this sense of well being and self-empowerment to others, in the hope that they too will experience similar benefits in their lives. I hope that those who attend my workshops in PMC Jewellery will take away with them, not only their piece of finished fine silver, but also a sense of pride and belief in themselves, having experienced a little light relief from the usual day to day concerns. I make no apologies for the fact that I am predominantly self-taught, nor for the fact that this is a new business. What has been a successful and satisfying hobby for many years has now evolved to what I hope will be an equally successful business. Publishing this website and receiving my first pieces back from the Assay Office with my very own Hallmark on them, not forgetting the recent Launch Party, have all been major milestones for me turning my dream into reality, and so the journey of my jewellery and tiaras, and me, continues. On a personal note, I am married with two beautiful teenage daughters and two gorgeous cats - all of whom I love dearly and owe so much, and so would like to publicly thank them for their support over our many years together, and for encouraging me to take my hobby forward into my now business. Likewise, I have some dear friends and family who have also supported and encouraged me, and gently pushed me in the right direction by showering me with their commissions and requests - you know who you are - and so I give thanks also to them for their love and light. Thank you for looking at my website, and I hope that I will be making you something special very soon. |

I have been making jewellery on and off for about 20 years, starting as a way of recuperation after periods of ill health, by making beaded earrings. This progressed to bracelets and necklaces. I have returned to this therapeutic hobby many times over the years. |
